Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month
April 2021 #SAAPM
COVID-19 has completely changed our way of life, requiring us daily to rise to the challenge of limited in-person interactions and increased virtual connections. While the pandemic has offered its own unique pros and cons, the persistent physical distance has opened the door for timely behavior change. This year, Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM) offers us an opportunity to educate and advocate for safe and supportive virtual spaces.
Throughout the month of April, we’ll focus on building consent into virtual interactions, cultivating respectful online communities, keeping our most vulnerable populations safe from abuse, and exploring the impact that trauma from abuse can have, including avenues for survivor support.
We invite you to join Project PEACE as we provide education and awareness all month long through our social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) and each Thursday as we gather in community to dive deeper into the following topics:
April 1st (Thurs): Healthy Boundaries in a Virtual World
April 8th (Thurs): TECHnically Healthy (tech abuse)
April 15th (Thurs): Sexual Assault of Men + Boys
April 17th (Sat): Chill + Heal (Yoga with Val- live virtual session: beginners WELCOME)
April 22nd (Thurs): Sexual Violence in Prisons
April 29th (Thurs): Faces of Disclosure
**To learn more and/or register for these free workshop sessions, click the session title or visit us on here on Eventbrite.
P.S: We love a good prize and hope you do too! For every session you attend, you’ll be entered into a raffle to win something that will help make this virtual journey a bit more fun.
October is Domestic Violence Month (DVAM)
Thank you to everyone who made October 2020 a huge success!
#PowerUp this DVAM with Project PEACE and our regional partners.
October marks a time of year when seasons change and fall festivities commence. While this may be a joyous time for many, it also marks the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), an opportunity for raising awareness and taking action to help end domestic and intimate partner violence.
As we become energized for the change in seasons and the fun to come, we want Arlington and Northern Virginia as a whole to #PowerUp! By “powering up”, we are asking folks to consider their power not only as individuals but as part of a larger collective devoted to reducing and eliminating domestic and intimate partner violence.
Visit this page for regular updates and follow our social media pages (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) throughout the month of October as we raise awareness and share resources that will help #POWERUPNOVA!
